Annual mass training

CPR/AED Saturday 2007, was a great success with 200+ trained!

Please join us for our annual CPR/AED Saturday. Our goal each year is to train up to 500 Middle Tennesseans, from age 8 on up, to save a life using simple CPR and AED skills. This is NOT a certification class, but will give you hands-on practice with CPR/AED. Our courses are taught by certified American Heart Association and American Red Cross instructors who are volunteering their time during this one day event to teach as many people as possible to use these life-saving skills.

This year's sponsors include: AirEvac, Vanderbilt Heart, The Nashville Fire Department, and Summit Medical Center.

CPR Saturdays have occured annually in Nashville under the leadership of different individuals and organizations. Now Nashville PAD has brought those entities together so that CPR/AED Saturday can grow each year and increase its impact on the Nashville community.
A CPR/AED Saturday event is a way for people to learn the basics of CPR and AED use. Though participants do not receive CPR certification, they do learn the skills needed to assist someone who has gone into sudden cardiac arrest. Volunteer trainers lead one-hour training sessions using a manikin, video and AED trainer device. Anyone, from age 8 to 80, regardless of physical ability, is encouraged to attend. A little knowledge and practice can go a long way in helping people to ACT if necessary. Our hope is that some participants will pursue full certification CPR and AED use and perhaps become a CPR/AED instructor.

250 People Attended Bellevue Training in 2006

Thank you to all 250 Nashville residents who came out to CPR/AED on Saturday, November 11 at the Bellevue YMCA and J.L. Turner Lifeling Learning Center. More than $1,200 was raised...enough money to purchase a life saving device for a Metro school. The Metro Nashville Public Schools along with the Nashvile PAD Program chose to use the money to purchase an automated external defibrillator (AED) for Hillwood High School. The AED was awarded to the school at a breakfast in April 2007.

Some special guests at our 2006 CPR/AED Saturday event included Bellevue Chamber of commerce members Dr. Andy Dixon of Dixon Chiropractics, and Dr. Sheri Weiner of Hearing Services of Tennessee. Councilman Charlie Tygard, a steadfast supporter of the Nashville PAD Program and instrumental in having the training event in Bellevue this year, attended the 11 a.m. training course and his wife came to the 9 a.m. class. All agreed the day was a success.

100 participants took home "CPR Anytime" kits that included manikins and a training DVD. The kits were donated by LifeFlight. Other event donors included: Bellevue O'Charley's , Starbucks Highway 70, Rent-a-center on Charlotte Pike, The Kroger on Highway 100, the Bellevue Red Hat Ladies club , the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce and the Bellevue YMCA. Sponsor donations ranged from food for volunteers to coffee for participants to space for the traning event.

The Nashville PAD thanks all Bellevue volunteers and donors. Without their generosity, the event would not have been possible.
