Community training

One of the major goals of the Nashville PAD Program is to overcome existing barriers to expanding the training of our citizens in CPR and the use of an AED. To address the financial barriers, we ask organizations who are granted an AED device by the Nashville PAD Program, to select "intended users," people who will respond in case someone collapses. The Nashville PAD Program gathers community funding and resources to train these people for free with a full certification course provided by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Each year, the Nashville PAD Program hosts a CPR/AED Saturday event. The purpose of this one-day, mass-community event is to provide a convenient and fun way for anyone, age 8 and up to practice basic CPR and AED skills for one hour. While the Nashville PAD believes certification is the best level of training, we understand that certification courses can be both time and cost prohibitive to many who are unfamiliar with CPR/AED. The one-hour community training is a great way to learn the basics and try it out, to overcome fears. We hope it will enable many more people in the Nashville community to act if they witness a collapse. Statistics prove someone is most likely to witness the collapse of someone they know; often a family member or loved one.
